L'International du cinema hip-hop de Montréal
Various artists - (Dolce Musique / King Groove Records)

Reviewing a CD compilation from a hip-hop film festival sounds like too many things going on at once - quick, fax me an e-mail about that phone call! - but the organisers of L'IDCHHDM (pretty catchy, eh?) did as good a job with the CD as they did with this year's event. Representing a wide cross-section of Canadian hip-hop - from English to French, Spanish to Creole - there are, like the fest, several standouts. Sumeet's Rush is a lush Rhodes-soaked song that showcases her versatile voice, and the Vancity's No Luck Club cut the funky horse snot out of What U Rockin/'4, but my favourite, by far, and this despite my anglo bias in hip-hop lyrics, is Daniel Russo G., who, on Le Jour où rien n'a change, spits in a language most people speak - good hip-hop.
